TEENS AND ADOLESCENTS

An orthodontist can enhance a smile at any age, but there is an optimal time period to begin treatment.  Between the ages of 11 and 15 is the most common time for orthodontic treatment — and for good reason.  By 12, most if not all of the permanent teeth have erupted and are in place, and crooked teeth, gaps and bad bites can easily be treated.  These problems will hardly ever correct themselves, so this is when most parents decide to seek orthodontic treatment.  When orthodontic intervention is not yet necessary, Dr. Williams will carefully monitor growth and development of your child and begin treatment only when it is ideal.

INTERCEPTIVE TREATMENT

For children ages 6-10, early intervention can make later treatment simpler, quicker and easier.  Although “baby” teeth are still present, early treatment can efficiently correct problems such as severe overbites, underbites, and crossbites.  Facial growth modification can be initiated at this age to treat some orthodontic problems.

ADULT ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT

Nearly 50% of US patients are adults, a trend that has been on the rise due to the affordability, health and cosmetic benefits of treatment.  We offer various treatment options for our adult patients, including clear braces and Invisalign®.

A large percentage of our patients are adults, and they agree that it’s never too late to improve their greatest asset – their smile.  A new smile can begin today!

SURGICAL ORTHODONTICS

Dr. Williams will work as a team with an oral surgeon and/or cosmetic surgeon to correct facial and jaw disharmonies.

MULTIDISCIPLINARY TREATMENT

We believe the best orthodontic outcomes are achieved when we work as a team with our patient and other dental care professionals.  Dr. Williams will work with your family dentist, pediatric dentist, oral surgeon or any other dental specialist to perfect your new smile.

RETENTION

When we remove your braces, we will begin the retention stage of your treatment.  The retention phase lasts for a minimum of 12 months.  Your final orthodontic result depends on your retainers, so follow through with the hard work you’ve put in so far!  Remember to remove your retainer before brushing, and brush your retainer before placing it back in your mouth.

OUR TYPES OF TREATMENT

Invisalign

Your Invisalign clear aligners are custom-made for you.  The aligners are virtually invisible and fit snugly over your teeth.  Each aligner shifts your teeth slightly, moving them horizontally and vertically and even rotating them when needed.  Your aligners are engineered to use the right amount of force in the right place at the right time.  When you change to the next set of aligners your teeth gradually move into position, following a custom treatment plan mapped out by Dr. Williams.

Invisalign clear aligners are made of proprietary, multilayer SmartTrack® material to gently shift your teeth into place.

Traditional Metal Braces

Traditional braces have progressed since the early days and are now lighter in weight and structure than they used to be.  They are made from a high-grade stainless steel or titanium and have metal brackets that are attached to each tooth using a type of cement.  The brackets are linked to each other with a thin archwire, which puts pressure on the teeth to cause them to move slowly into the correct position.

The archwires are connected to the brackets using tiny elastics known as ligatures or o-rings, which Dr. Williams will change each time he adjusts the braces.

Clear Braces (Ceramic)

Ceramic brackets are a good option for patients looking for a less noticeable method of treatment with braces.  The brackets are clear, instead of metal, so they blend with your natural tooth color.  The brackets will not stain, however, the o-rings around them may need to be changed from time to time due to discoloration from food and drinks.  The treatment process is the same as with metal brackets.
